About Dentures

Colton dentures
Dentures are removable dental devices that replace large spans of missing teeth. Dentures are a good, cost-effective alternative for when a patient is not a good candidate for dental implants.

Why is it important to replace missing teeth?

When a tooth is taken out it results in an empty space. The nearby teeth can move or tilt into this empty space. The teeth above or below the space can also move into the empty space. Once teeth start to move into the empty space it may be difficult to clean those areas. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Missing teeth can also affect your ability to chew food properly. Dentures are a great option to maintain your oral health.

What should I expect when getting dentures?

There are two different types of dentures:
Full Denture: for those that need all their teeth replaced.
Partial Denture: for those that need some of their teeth replaced.
There are 4 main visits in the denture process, followed by any necessary adjustment visits.
First Visit:
Molds of your teeth are taken and sent to lab.
Second Visit:
A record of your bite will be taken to help see how your denture teeth will come together
The shade, shape, and size of your denture teeth will be chosen
Third Visit:
A sample of your dentures will be tried in your mouth
We will discuss any potential changes you may want to your denture fit, teeth shade, and appearance of your smile.
All changes are finalized so we can tell lab to process your dentures
Once we process your dentures, we cannot make any more changes to the look of your denture.
Fourth:
You will receive your final dentures
Please note that there is an adjustment period. It takes time to get used to your new denture and you may need to come in for follow up appointments as you get adjusted to your new denture.
Dentures are very durable and can last for years when properly cared for. They appear very natural and should also provide for normal behavior when eating and chewing.
